Advanx Stage 1
Completed: 2011
Advanx Stage 1 was the first phase of a 2.5 hectare urban regeneration of disused industrial land in Rushcutters Bay. The project presented the opportunity to create through site links and establish a public, pedestrian network connecting neighbouring residential precincts with waterfront parks and gardens. Stage 1 covered a 10,905 m2 site fronting Neild Avenue and McLachlan Avenue and contains commercial, retail and 153 apartments across a full range of apartment types, from studio apartments to two storey penthouses.
The project featured the restoration and adaptive re-use of the original Advanx Hall building. It fronts a new public plaza and its brick façade is part of a composition of different types that reduce the apparent scale of the development. This strategy contributed to Stage 1 of the project winning the UDIA urban design award.
