The Multi Purpose Service (MPS) is an innovative social model which recognises the need to provide rural and regional communities with a facility that is both a home for elderly people, and a place for community care and interaction (including emergency, acute and community health care).
The new Barham MPS facility provides Emergency Department Bays and treatment spaces, community health and inpatient rooms for the town of Barham, which is located along the Murray River on the border of NSW and Victoria.
DJRD were engaged in 2017 and our role encompassed Detailed Design, Design Finalisation & Construction Advice through to Completion. Barham MPS was designed in a sensitive approach to both users, community and context, with attention to user consultation and the location of existing trees driving the refinement of the design. The design of the MPS references the regional architecture of Barham, including single storey skillion roofs, wide sheltering eaves overhangs, and façade materials which are sympathetic to the local neighbourhood.
